A coffee importer and roaster in Peterborough has seen a surge in sales to consumers after cafes and hotels closed during the Covid lockdown.

Now Masteroast Coffee, which employs 130 people at its manufacturing hub in Plantation House, in Newark Road, is working to refocus its operations in a bid to meet the changing demand.

The company, which before the pandemic sold coffee mostly for the out-of-home market, has secured an increased overdraft facility from HSBC UK to bolster it during Covid-19.

It is using the new facility to support its cash flow to both meet the new demand and manage its complex international supply chain with coffee producers around the world.

The growth in sales has directly followed the closure of coffee shops and hotels in March after the Government lockdown.

Andy Fawkes, managing director, said: “We’ve really evolved during this period to meet our customers’ changing demands.

“The UK loves its coffee and we have seen a shift in the market since the lockdown as people seek ‘real coffee’ to drink at home. The support from HSBC UK has enabled us to remain open and given us the confidence to carry on with business as usual.

“That means we can continue to shape our plans for the future as we adapt and strengthen our in-home and e-commerce offerings in line with market demands.”

Philip Aspden, HSBC UK director, said: “We were pleased to support Masteroast Coffee with an increased overdraft facility to see them through this difficult period.”

“It’s important we are able to tailor the support required to each individual customer, and we look forward to continuing to support the business as it looks to meet the changing demands from its customers.”
