Michael Gent, 27, has been running from his home in Stamford to Witham Hall school, in Witham on the Hill, near Bourne, and back again every day this week.

A founding member of the Pelargos Foundation, which was set up in 2014 by former Stamford School pupils, science, PE and games teacher Michael is hoping to raise around £1,500.

The funds will be split between the two charities which the foundation is supporting this year – #TeamGeorge and Save The Children.

He said: “It’s been really tough. I have been leaving home at around 5.45am every day and arriving at school around 8.15am before doing a normal day’s teaching and then running home again.

“I’m really tired, but the response I’ve had from school staff, pupils, parents and passing motorists who’ve seen me in my stork outfit has been amazing and has helped me stay motivated.”

Michael said he does not really like running, but wanted to help raise vital funds for two causes close to his heart.

Stamford School’s crest is a stork and the Pelargos Foundation has adopted that symbol. Michael added: “As a teacher, Save The Children is charity which I have a lot of respect for and #TeamGeorge is a very worthy recipient.

“Stamford School’s George Robinson was serious injured on a rugby tour in South Africa and 10 years ago the Pelargos members were also on a school rubgy tour there, so it’s very close to home for us.”
