Smiles grow as Peterborough children get behind the wheel of big tractors at farm

Small children were able to get their hands on big machinery at a special weekend at Sacrewell Farm.

The attraction held a Big Machinery Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, with dozens of families heading out to get up close to tractors, diggers and other agricultural kit. Youngsters were able to get in the cab and behind the wheel of state of the art tractors and combine harvesters, and pose for photos in some of the biggest vehicles in the city. There were also ploughing demonstrations so budding farmers were able to see the kit in action. But the event was not all about horsepower, as there were smaller, pedal powered tractors for the children to drive round the farm as well. Sacrewell Farm, based on the A47 at Thornhaugh, have a number of other events planned for February, including pirate themed activities during the half term (between February 15 and February 23), a Bread for Beginners class on Saturday, February 29, and a Star Party with the Peterborough Astronomical Society, also on February 29.

The popular lambing season at the farm is due to begin next month. For more information about any of the events and activities, visit www.sacrewell.org.uk/
