Gardening has always been a passion for Lorna and husband Andrew, who have lived in Crowland for the last three years. However, during lockdown, many people across the country have started to spend more and more time in their gardens.

After seeing pictures of fellow residents posting pictures of their gardens online, Lorna came up with an idea of how she could use this new found love of gardening to give back to the community.

She said: “Outside spaces have become important to a lot of people and we’ve seen so many fall in love with their gardens again.

“I think it has helped a lot of people mentally and it’s great to be able to celebrate that. I think it was the entrepreneurial spirit in me that got me thinking about how we can give back to the area.”

The plan is for residents to send in two photos of the favourite part of the gardens, with the best submissions to be selected to feature on the calendar.

Discussions are ongoing with one of the local primary schools over having the children take a role in choosing their favourites to be featured.

Classic Printers have offered to print the calendars, which will be priced as £5 each or three for £12. There are also spaces for advertisers to be featured, with all proceeds to going towards two local charities.

The first of which is community support charity Crowland Cares, with the second being Crowland Community Larder. They are a group of volunteers who have set up a community larder under Agape Care Foodbank to offer food to anyone in the community struggling during this difficult time.

She added: “It’s clear to see there is a lot of community pride in the area, you can see that in the way people have taken care of their gardens and have been willing to help others.

“It’s been lovely to see the fruits of everyone’s labour and how so many have got their children involved.

This is something we hope we are able to do again.”

The final submission date for photos is Friday September 11, with the calendar going to print the third week in September.

Once produced, distribution and sales information will be available on the Crowland Chatter Facebook group.
