A planning application submitted to Peterborough City Council claimed that Best Friends Veterinary Group in Broadway was due to close because of recent struggles, with plans sent in to convert the premises into eight new housing units.

But the practice has responded forcefully by insisting that its intention is to grow the business as it seeks a new location close to its current site, which is situated at 158 Broadway by the junction with Huntly Grove in Park ward.

In response to an article on the Peterborough Telegraph website, which initially quoted a planning statement submitted to the council on behalf of applicant Andrew Bennett from Hemingford Abbots near Huntingdon, the practice said: “Please be reassured that, contrary to the planning application, the veterinary practice is performing exceptionally well and we will continue to care for our clients’ pets.

“We are aware our landlord is seeking to develop the site and we are looking to relocate our practice so we can continue providing outstanding care for our patients and an excellent experience for clients.

“We have already identified suitable locations close to our current site. It is likely that this would not be until late 2021 and we will keep you updated on these potential new facilities which we believe would provide an enhanced environment for our practice team and for our clients and patients.”
