Peterborough Telegraph photographer explains how you can take a stunning star trails photograph

The Peterborough Telegraph photographer has lifted the lid on how he captured a stunning Star Trails picture in countryside near the city.

David Lowndes captured the image on a clear night last week - and the picture got dozens of likes when he posted it on social media. The image shows how the stars appear to rotate around the night sky.

David said: “The image was taken at Canary Cottage at Knarr Farm, Thorney Toll.

“The picture was taken on a Nikon D4s with an 18-35mm wide angle lens. I took 150 exposures at five seconds and f3.5 each, and then stacked them all together using just one exposure for the foreground below the horizon. This gives you the movement of the stars without affecting the cottage.

“Obviously to do this you need a clear and dark sky.”
