As exclusively revealed by The Peterborough Telegraph earlier this week, dozens of families in Wittering were given notice to leave as the MOD were ending the lease on their homes.

Residents were heartbroken by the decision, leaving many in tears. A total of 71 homes were affected by the decision to end the lease, with 61 of those homes being occupied.

However, today the Ministry of Defence said they were extending the notice period by six months.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: “We are aware of the issues facing tenants and where, in cases of hardship, extra time is required, we are willing to extend tenancies by up to a further six months through to September 2021 on a case by case basis.

“Tenants who have been served notice are being informed.”

The homes are currently being leased by the MOD from Annington Homes. The MOD said the decision to end the lease was made as part of a estate management.

A spokesman for Annington said: “While Annington is the effective freeholder of the properties, we have had no involvement in the decision to terminate these tenancies and were not previously aware of it.”
