Peterborough posties go on strike

Posties have gone on strike at the Royal Mail sorting office in Peterborough today (Thursday).

A number of staff at the sorting office in Papyrus Road, Peterborough this morning.

A picket line has been set up outside the site.

A spokesman for the Royal Mail said: “Royal Mail is disappointed at the industrial action that is taking place at our Peterborough Delivery office. We have robust contingency measures in place and will make every effort to deliver as much mail as possible to our customers.

“We also expect the enquiry office to be open as usual for customers to collect any mail for which we have left a “Something for You card”. Posting customers should use local post offices and we expect to collect from all post office branches and all post boxes in the area.

“We apologise to customers for any disruption to their mail service. Royal Mail is fully committed to resolving our colleagues’ concerns in co-operation with the Communication Workers Union (CWU).”

The Peterborough Telegraph has contacted the Communication Workers Union (CWU) for comment about the industrial action.
