Rachel has felt the effects of seeing loved ones battle with cancer. She said: “Like many of us we have family members and friends either fighting cancer or have been lost to cancer, but I can only imagine the feeling of losing hair whilst having treatment.”

Describing the relationship between hairdresser and client as a “very personal one,” Rachel is determined to help in any way she can. She said: “As a bystander you can feel helpless. The one thing I can do is to hopefully make the transition of losing your hair a little less daunting by helping to have a change of hairstyle or getting people ready for wigs.”

Rachel hopes the experiences will bring them confidence and allow them to feel empowered facing the next stages in their cancer journey. Helping to make the process easier, Rachel has her own salon with a homely feel which she hopes will help her clients feel at ease.

So far Rachel has received lovely feedback from her clients but has not had anyone take her up on the free service. Though she hopes someone who is battling cancer will see her gesture and take her up on it. Rachel hasn’t put a time limit on the complimentary offer and hopes people will come to her when they feel the time is right.
