Will, who was born and still lives in Stamford, has spent most of his life walking the footpaths in the area.

In 2019, he and a group of like-minded adventurers walked the 88-mile Jurassic Way from Banbury to Stamford in a four-day expedition and earlier this year, he walked the 65-mile Rutland Round, which spans the perimeter of England’s smallest county.

The 43-year-old has also taken on walks further afield, namely in Georgia, Spain and Slovenia, where he climbed the 2864m (9396ft) up Mount Triglav.

The guide contains walks a lot less daunting than that though and sets out to unlock some hidden gems. The walks are split into categories of: up to one hour, between one and to and two hours plus. The routes range from the Harringworth viaduct to the tranquility of Shillingthorpe Park and cover routes across Rutland, Stamford and close to Peterborough.

Will, who also writes a monthly walking feature for Active magazine, said: “I was born and bred in Stamford and still live in this marvellous town. I love the area just as much today as I always have.

“Over the years I have walked most of the footpaths in Rutland and the Stamford area and I revisit my favourites regularly. Not least because I have two labradors who, regardless of weather conditions, always want a walk.

“In this new guide, I have tried to give a balanced spread of walks from all around the local area but please don’t blame me if it’s a bit muddy out there – after all this is England!

“So, whether you are looking for somewhere with a different view for a quick stroll or you want to really stretch the legs for three or four hours you will find plenty of ideas in this compact new guide.”

The book is sponsored by Rutland-based healthcare company Cell Regeneration and is available from the end of October for £7.95 at www.theactivemag.com or local stockists.
