Jake Maguire, 34, was one of 5,000 people to put themselves forward for The Perfect World Project and is now down to the last
50 after impressing production staff with his personality and planned philanthropy.

Jake is no stranger to television having previously taken part in BBC One’s gruelling fitness show Ninja Warrior and Channel 4’s dating show First Dates. And after reading about The Perfect World Project –which will see 10 contestants battle for the huge prize on a tropical island – Jake jumped at the chance to apply.

He said: “It sounds like an amazing opportunity and I’m really hopeful I’ll make the final 10. The top prize is a potentially life-changing sum of money and of course I’d love to make myself more financially secure but I’d like to give a lot of it away.

“I’m lucky in that I have a roof over my head, a gorgeous girlfriend and a beautiful daughter. Fast cars and big houses are not for me. I know what it’s like to struggle and have nothing.

“There’s no greater feeling than helping people and that’s what I’m determined to do. I’d love to do something along the lines of the The Secret Millionaire TV show and find causes to support financially.”

Jake, who has a 14-year-old daughter, grew up in Stamford and used to live in Wittering. He recently moved to Tamworth to be with girlfriend Stacey Hayward, who runs a hair salon there.

He works as a security engineer for Britannia Fire and Security based in Yaxley, near Peterborough.

The 50 people in the running for the show are currently seeking public votes to get down to the final 20. Final interviews will then be held before the lucky 10 are selected.
