Coronavirus: Peterborough’s rough sleepers moved into hotel

The Government has told councils that rough sleepers in England should be found a roof over their head by this weekend.
In Peterborough, the city council’s rough sleeper outreach team and volunteers with the Garden House - which offers support and shelter for the city’s homeless - have been incredibly busy.

Hide AdA post on the Garden House’s Facebook page this morning (Friday) stated: “A long, challenging day yesterday at the Garden House .
“However by the end of it 30 Guests had been helped to move off the streets into a hotel by our Rough Sleeper Outreach Team colleagues.
“Other Garden House staff and volunteers helped to answer questions, defuse tension, provide food and drink sort through food donations and do whatever else was needed.
“All 30 Guests were fed and will be continue to be fed over this weekend and for the next 12 weeks.

Hide Ad“We even managed to have a Guest’s dog fostered so they could accept an offer of accomodation .
“On Monday, 30 March, 30 Guests will increase to 50.”
The Garden House is run by Light Project Peterborough, which also operates the Winter Night Shelter in the city.
An appeal has been made by the city council for people to support the charity, as well as Peterborough Food Bank and Peterborough Soup Kitchen which are all facing rising demand and diminishing resources due to the coronavirus.
