Charity shop friends make the cut for children’s hospice

Two fundraising friends have braved the shave in aid of a children’s hospice charity.

Susan Reeves, 51, and Debbie Gibbs, 55, both volunteer at Whittlesey’s East Anglian Children’s Hospice shop and opted to have their hair cropped for the cause which is close to their heart.

usan has worked for the shop since it opened eight years ago, first as a volunteer and now a sales assistant, while Debbie volunteers.

Susan explained: “My son has Cerebral Palsy as a result of having a brain tumour removed when he was a year old. He has accessed EACH’s services in the past, although he is doing so well now, EACH helped us when we needed them. It’s really important to support this amazing charity.

“My amazing friend Debbie is very passionate about the charity too, and we wanted to help the charity as with lockdown the shops have been closed and obviously haven’t taken any money, which has made a big impact financially with helping the hospices delivering care.

They are hoping to raise £1,000 and so far have raised £726 towards their target.

The pair made the cut on Thursday, in the shop, cheered on by fellow volunteers, although they are a bit apprehensive about keeping their heads warm over the winter.

You can still donate via their Justgiving page here.
