Famous musicians captured on camera by a Peterborough-born rock photographer were put on display for what organisers believe to be the largest ever outside art exhibition.

A crowd of 65,000 visited the ‘Size Matters’ exhibition which illustrated the work of Nick Elliott who was born in Longthorpe.

Nick, who formerly worked for the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, had 13 eight-foot images displayed at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power in Cheshire last weekend.

The show featured a collection of black and white creative images captured by Nick over his career of artists including E-Street Band’s Nils Lofgren, Thin Lizzy’s Ricky Warwick, Beverley Knight, Motörhead’s Lemmy, The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins, Simple Minds’ Jim Kerr and Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes.

Nick said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the exhibition and how well it was received.

“When I created the concept I was confident that it was the first time that something like this had ever been done before but didn’t expect it to be so spectacular.

“I wanted to create an exhibition that was truly breath-taking.

“Size Matters is about immersing the observer into the live performance, to re-create the experience I had when I shot the image.

“I’ve shown my work around the world for many years as limited edition fine art for collectors, but this was the first time I’ve taken a show directly to the viewer.

“It was all about reproducing the exhibits as big as feasibly possible so that it could be appreciated at a distance but also immeasurably powerful and engulfing close up.”

Nick, who went to primary and secondary school in Stanground, has worked in the music industry for over 20 years.

Before focusing on the music industry, he was commissioned by top fashion and advertising agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi, as well as high-profile organisations such as British Airways and Walt Disney.

His images have frequently been featured on album artwork and published extensively across the media.

The images for his show were reproduced into larger form by digital printers Structure-flex Limited.

Additional dates to show Size Matters will be announced shortly.
