CUSTOMERS had a special treat in store for children at Peterborough District Hospital’s Amazon ward with a bumper donation.

Shoppers at Anglia Co-operative’s Co-op Local in Mayor’s Walk, Peterborough, helped raise £365.45 for the children’s ward.

Anglia Co-operative donated 1p for every till receipt handed over by shoppers during its Pick Up A Penny campaign.

The money will be used to buy new toys for the ward playroom when the patients move to the new Peterborough City Hospital in Bretton.

Children’s ward play leader Jane Buckingham said: “The Mayor’s Walk store has helped the children’s ward many times and we’re very grateful for this donation.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to the store and its customers whose generosity helped make this latest donation possible. It’s very much appreciated.”

Mayor’s Walk store manager Gary Cowling added: “We feel very close to the children’s ward and I’m very proud of the way that our customers responded to our latest campaign.”
