WORLD OF SPORT: The actions of desperate men

I know athletics chiefs are frantically trying to restore a sliver of credibility to their sport, but scrapping all current world records and starting afresh sounds like the actions of desperate men.

Why should the innocent be punished alongside the guilty? I don’t blame Paula Radcliffe for worrying that her marathon record will be expunged from the records through no fault of her own.

I have no problem with blatantly dodgy world records like the ones held by Florence-Griffith Joyner being removed and replaced by more believable efforts, but it’s a brave man who would take Usain Bolt’s name from the history books.

Anyway who’s to say any future world records won’t be set by drug-fuelled cheats with the best chemists?

Those in charge of athletics should concentrate on keeping Russia out of the 2016 Olympics. That would be a decent start to any clean-up operation.
