Peace of mind from Cat Guardians

C at Guardians is a free service provided by Cats Protection, aimed at giving peace of mind to cat owners concerned about what might happen if they were to pass away before their cat.

If you are a cat owner, then we really understand how much joy they bring to your life. Should something happen to you, naturally you will want to make sure that someone is there to care for the cat, or cats, you love.

None of us know what is around the corner and we see too often that people are in situations where they have suddenly lost a family member and don’t know what to do with the cat.

Through the Cat Guardian service, individuals can plan for their cats’ future so that in the event of their death, Cats Protection will take their cat into one of our voluntary run branches or adoption centres across the Country and find them a loving new home. Furthermore, Cats Protection promises never to put a healthy cat to sleep, so you can feel assured that we will give your feline friend all the love and care that they need until we can find them the new home they deserve.

As a branch we often have many older people looking for a companion cat, but are reluctant to adopt as they fear that should they pass away first, their beloved companion may be left on its own with no one to care for it. Back in 2014, we were approached by an elderly lady desperate for feline companionship. Having approved her support network to assist with Millie’s basic care requirements, we saw first-hand how they both enriched each other’s lives. Sadly, the lady passed away earlier this year but had sensibly made plans and registered her with the Cat Guardian service.

This meant a huge weight was taken off Millie’s owner’s mind in the last few weeks of her life, knowing that Millie would be properly cared for by us until we found her a new home.

Registering is simple, you can do this online or by post. Once you have done this, you will then be sent a confirmation pack out in the post which will include a letter to confirm that you are registered to the service, along with a wallet/purse card, key fob, window sticker and information sheet to notify others that you have made these arrangements.

Please keep these and fill them in accordingly. These items will be useful to notify others that you have a cat, and to inform them of your wish for us to take care of your cat in the event of your death. There is nothing greater in life, than the peace of mind to know you have a plan in place to ensure your cat will not be left homeless in the event of your death.
