Letter: ‘Why has the Embankment not been utilised before?’

Peterborough Telegraph reader Nick Gilbert disagrees with a previous correspondent about development plans for the Embankment.

I’m writing in response to Andy Cole’s letter from 03/04/2020.

I walk/cycle along the embankment 2/3 times a week and often wonder with the development of the city since the seventies why nobody has thought about utilising the embankment with bars & restaurants like many towns and cities up down the country have done.

I think it’s brilliant when I walk along the embankment and see folk enjoying themselves at the beer festival or funfair or circus. It’s great but what about the other 46 weeks of the year?

All I see is drug addicts and homeless congregating there, it breaks my heart.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to invigorate the area from the city centre to the embankment. The football club have already stated the physical playing of matches at the stadium would be minor compared to the 280 proposed non football events to be staged at the new facility.

Imagine the boost to the local economy this would bring, hotels, restaurants, pubs. The list is endless.

This would be a massive boost to the city and should be encouraged & embraced by all.

By the way, when people talk of green spaces, how many comparable size cities have a facility like Ferry Meadows. I rest my case.
