The night shelter is run by the Light Project Peterborough in partnership with Peterborough City Council.

A council spokesman said: “Users of the night shelter will be clients who are known to be rough sleeping and pose a low risk.

“All clients will be identified by Housing Needs.

“Clients will be supported to move on from the night shelter and secure accommodation either with a supported housing provider, social landlord or private landlord.”

The winter night shelter will be open for three months, starting on Monday, December 11.

In addition to the winter night shelter, the council will be offering Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP). SWEP - extra support for homeless people - will be triggered when the temperature in Peterborough is forecast to be 1°c or below for three consecutive nights or when there is an amber weather warning issued.
