Peterborough District Woodcraft Folk allows members to take part in weekly group nights, and have opportunities to go on residential and camping trips with their peers.

The group will meet at Paston Farm on Mondays from 6pm - 7.30pm.

Activities are centred on co-operative principles with games including everyone and promoting teamwork. Children are given many opportunities to directly lead and make decisions in the group, supporting each other to create an environment for nurturing self confidence and building strong friendships.

The organisation encourages youth to understand and participate in their local, national and international communities, whilst having lots of fun together. A typical group night might include co-operative games, activities exploring current social justice topics, bushcraft skills, arts, crafts and singing.

The new group in Peterborough is part of a wider project supporting Woodcraft Folk to grow in East Anglia, funded jointly by the Department for Digital Culture Media and Sport and the Big Lottery Fund. Until now, the nearest groups have been in Cambridge and Leicester.

Project Co-ordinator Pippa Gardner, who is from Dogsthorpe, said: “We are excited to be opening new groups and bringing the opportunity to join Woodcraft Folk to even more children and young people across the region. Opening a Pioneer group in Peterborough for the first time has been a huge milestone, and is thanks to the hard work of volunteers who have come forward to lead the group.”

The first session is on September 10, 6pm - 7.30pm at Paston Farm. For more: email [email protected]
