The new sign has been donated by Coates Women’s Institute in celebration of the WI’s centenary year.

The sign has been designed by Coates artist Jeni Cairns which depicts various aspects of village life.

To support the sign the metal framework and stand has been designed and made by James Neacey of Fenland Furniture, Whittlesey.

The unveiling will take place at South Green, opposite the war memorial, on Saturday, April 23 at 2pm.

One of the images of traditional life in Coates that has been retained on the new sign is that of two geese, reflecting the days when they were always seen on the green. To this day children at the local primary school are called ‘Coates Goslings’.
