Mum's tribute to tragic teen biker killed near Stamford

James Sean Lovett died when he lost control of his 125cc Yamaha motorcycle at around 9.20pm on Monday, June 20, on the A1175 Uffington Road.

James leaves behind mother Rosemary Maclennan and brothers Martin and John Maclennan who will miss him dearly.

Rosemary said losing James had been devastating for the family and she urged other motorcyclists to be careful whenout on the road.

She said: “He was the kind of son that any mother would be proud of – extremely well mannered, polite and he always had a smile on his face.

“His cheerful outlook on life was infectious and he was a very kind and thoughtful young man.

“James worked as a cellarman at the George Hotel and he was so happy in his job and with the people that he worked with – nothing was a chore and he simply loved and embraced life.

“I loved James dearly. Losing him has been devastating for our family and impossible to accept.

“I can’t emphasise enough how careful motorcyclists need to be on the road – you really have to take everything into consideration.

“If you have a loved one who rides a bike, please encourage them to regularly check their vehicle, be mindful of weather conditions, the driving of others and to never take chances.

“We would like to thank everyone who is helping our family through this and the emergency services for their support.”

Rosemary, Martin and John have been touched by the outpouring of support from everyone who knew James and want to pass on their heartfelt thanks.

Meanwhile, school friend Rhianna Conway contacted the Mercury to pay tribute and said ‘heaven had gained another angel’.

She said: “I knew James through Years 7 to 11 and we dated briefly when we were younger.

“He was a kind gentleman, always had a smile on his face and could make you laugh in any situation.

“I will love him with all of my heart and I’m so devastated by his death. I hope he is and always will be happy. RIP my angel heaven has gained another angel x.”
