More than £50,000 recovered by Trading Standards in a year

Rogue trader prosecutions and interventions by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Trading Standards has seen consumers across the county get a total of £56,670 back in the past year.

This includes a £10,000 sum as the result of a court compensation order following prosecution, as well as officers attending incidents on doorsteps to stop consumers handing over their cash.

Trading Standards also makes phone calls to businesses on behalf of consumers to get their money back in extenuating circumstances.

Peterborough City Council’s Trading Standards service merged with Cambridgeshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service in April. The team is overseen by city council head of Regulatory Services Peter Gell.
