The Indesit name is to vanish from Peterborough after the company’s acquisition was completed today (Thursday).
White goods maker, Indesit, which employs about 1,000 people at its site in Morley Way, was largely bought by the Whirlpool Corporation in October last year.
It has taken a year to fully integrate the two companies, which will operate here under the name Whirlpool UK Appliances Ltd.
The American company, which is the world’s largest maker of appliances, is reported to have acquired a 60 per cent stake in the Italy-headquartered Indesit after paying 758 million Euros.
Ian Moverley, brand communications director for Whirlpool UK Appliance, said: “Following the acquisition of Indesit Company by Whirlpool Corporation in October 2014, we are pleased to confirm that we have now completed the integration of our Whirlpool and Indesit businesses in the UK.
“As of October 1 this year we are operating as one merged company under the name of Whirlpool UK Appliances Ltd.
He added: “This is a major milestone for Whirlpool UK Appliances and moves us one step closer to growing our business and achieving the ambitious targets we have set ourselves for 2015 and beyond.”
He said that Whirlpool UK Appliances would operate out of its offices in Peterborough.
Whirlpool Corporation currently employs more than 100,000 employees world-wide.
