Drizzly autumn weather did not put off March firefighters who have been out in force washing cars for charity.
The event at the Fenland fire station on Saturday raised £400 in just three hours, which will now be match-funded by Lloyds Bank. The total will be split between The Fire Fighters Charity and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Watch Commander Andy Powell said: “The event was extremely well supported despite the drizzly weather so we would like to thank everyone who brought their vehicles for us to scrub clean.”
Last month, firefighters at the on-call fire station took part in a dementia awareness session and joined more than 200 other Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service staff in becoming Dementia Friends.
WC Powell added: “The dementia awareness session really opened our eyes and we wanted to do something to pledge our support to the charity, which is why we have chosen to donate half the funds raised to the Alzheimer’s Society.”
