Marathon challenge for Peterborough cancer survivor in memory of his dad

Chris Hopewell, Clinical Coding Research Lead at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is running a marathon in memory of his late father.

Chris decided to take part in the Manchester marathon to raise money for the UK charity, the Bone Cancer Research Trust, after his dad was diagnosed with secondary bone cancer.

Chris has also battled cancer after being diagnosed with Acinic Cell Carcinoma of the Salivary Gland in 2005 and has been cancer-free for 11 years.

Chris said: “My father fought cancer for five years and late last year we were given the devastating news that his cancer was terminal. Along with Oesophageal Cancer, my dad also had secondary bone cancer, which is often overlooked by many of the big cancer charities. I decided to do my bit and raise money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust in the hope that I can help families in a similar situation to mine.

“Sadly my father passed away in February and while he didn’t make it to see me complete the marathon, he was proud of me just the same.”

Chris has already raised over £850 but is looking to reach his target amount of £1,000.
