Man charged with GBH after violent attack on woman and Cambridgeshire police officer

A man has been charged following a violent incident in which a woman and a police officer was hospitalised on Tuesday evening (March 22).

Matthew Chand, 36, of St Mary’s Road in Wootton, Bedford, was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder in Cambourne, Cambridgeshire.

He has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, causing actual bodily harm (ABH) and two counts of assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty.

He has been remanded in police custody to appear at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday, March 24).

Officers attended Sackville Way, outside Cambourne Police Station, at around 9.20pm after hearing screams in the street.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, suffered serious but not life threatening injuries after being attacked and was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where she remains in a stable condition.
