Four years of fundraising following a life-saving liver transplant have earned Werrington mum Maggie Mooney a top award.
Maggie, whose annual balls have raised £32,000 for the Addenbrookes Charitable Trust, was put forward by the charity for the Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year with the East Anglia Institute of Fundraising.
And last week she collected her award with close friend and ball co-organiser Sheridan Gaunt.
“The charity called me a couple of months ago and said they would like to nominate me for an award for my fundraising, and I say that was fine.
“ I didn’t think I had won until I got a call on Wednesday to tell me to be at the awards ceremony the following day.
“ I could not believe it, but I am very happy and I would like to thank Sheridan too for all her work with the organising of the balls.”
Despite still dealing with some health complications, and fortnightly hosptal visits, Maggie is staging her fifth Charity Ball to take place on November 21 at the Peterborough United ground in London Road.
Maggie, who underwent a liver transplant at Addenbrookes in 2011, is hoping the event will boost her fundraising total to £40,000 by the end of the year.
