LATEST: Police believe '˜no-one else involved' in deaths of man and woman at firearms incident in Magdalen

Although the pair have not yet been formally identified, police have said they believe them to be Stephen Muncaster, 47, and Allison Muncaster, 48.

Detective Superintendant Paul Durham, of the joint Norfolk and Suffolk major investigation team, said a short time ago: “As a result of our initial investigation this morning there is no evidence to suggest that anyone else was involved in this incident.

“However, our investigation into the full circumstances surrounding their deaths will continue.

“At the moment it is thought that both of them died from gunshot wounds and a firearm has been located at the scene.

“Home Office post mortems will take place in due course and we will seek to formally identify them as soon as possible.”

He and his estranged wife, Kelly, were thrown into the spotlight in 2002, when their nephew, Michael Carroll, won almost £10 million on the lottery.

Carroll said at the time: “My aunt Kelly checked the winning numbers on Teletext as I called my numbers out. She really thought I was joking when I read out the same six numbers as they appeared on the screen. I had to give the ticket to my uncle Stephen to finally confirm that I had won.”

It was initially thought that Kelly Muncaster was one of the victims of the shooting, though that is now known not to be the case.

She told a news agency: “It’s going to be no comment all the way from me.

“I’m speaking to you now, so I’m not dead.

“All I would say is have compassion for my children. Leave them and leave his family.”

Detectives earlier said concerns for the safety of two residents were first raised by paramedics just after midnight.

A man’s body was found shortly afterwards in the front garden of the address in Stow Road. A woman’s body was then discovered inside. Both are believed to be in their late 40s.

The area’s MP, Elizabeth Truss, said: “This is extremely shocking and my thoughts are very much with the family and friends of those involved.

“Obviously the investigation is ongoing and I know the police are out in the community speaking to local residents about what has taken place. I have asked the Chief Constable to keep me updated on developments.”

The village’s borough councillor, Marcus Hopkins, described the news as a “massive shock” to the community.

One resident said he had heard a commotion between midnight and 1am.

Another added: “Who’d have thought it in Magdalen.”

The house has been sealed off to enable forensics officers to examine the scene.

Stow Road has also been closed in order to preserve the scene for further investigation.
