Investigators are still at the scene of the firework factory where a young father lost his life in an explosion this week.

Brendan Ledgister (24) was died following the explosion at the Le Maitre factory in Fourth Drove, Fengate on Tuesday.

Brendan, who had recently had a young baby girl, Olivia, with girlfriend Chelsey, died in hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are leading the investigation into the incident, while the case has also been handed to the coroner.

Today officers are still working at the scene as they try and piece together what happened.

Following the tragedy, friends and family also paid tribute to popular Brendan on social media.

Karen Cornacchia and Rick Wilson, the joint directors of the firm, said they were devastated and shocked by what had happened, describing it as ‘one of the darkest days in the company’s 41-year history.’

Family and friends have also set a fundraising page to help Chelsey and eight-month old Olivia. Hundreds of pounds has already been raised.
