Illegal immigrants were caught in the back of a lorry at a Peterborough petrol station.

Police were called to the Shell station on Atherstone Avenue in Westwood at about 10.45pm on Tuesday night. Eight immigrants were found in the trailer of a lorry.

Photographer Chris Rowell captured the moment police arrested the eight. He said: “The lorry had come from Spain via Calais. The driver of the lorry said he heard banging coming from the back. He said he thought the people had been in the lorry since Sunday.” A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said two 27-year-old men from Vietnam, a 16-year-old boy, 30-year-old man and a woman of unknown age from Iran and a 16-year-old boy, 20 year old man and 27-year-old man from Iraq were all arrested.
