The Household Recycling Centre in Dogsthorpe, Peterborough has been closed because of high winds.
The centre will remain shut until further notice because of health and safety reasons.
A Peterborough City Council spokesman said: “We always shut the centre when there are high winds, as items can blow out of the big bins there.
“Also, if people are carrying large items up the stairs there, they could get caught by a strong gust.
“For the safety of workers and visitors to the centre, it will be shut. We will aim to open it as soon as we can.”
Across the city the wind caused minor disruption, including bins being knocked over, but a Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said they had not been called to any incidents relating to the weather.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the area in relation to the strong winds forecast to hit the city.
