High mark for The Deepings School as it stays just the job

The Deepings School has been recognised for its commitment to giving its students the best chance of a first step up the careers ladder.

Staff and students received the Career Mark Award after the quality of the school’s careers advice, guidance and information met national standards.

Led by careers and events manager Linda Taylor, the school was praised by assessors from award body Futures Advice, Skills and Employment for its “long period of stability” in terms of staffing and “championing” of careers work.

Mrs Taylor said: “The Deepings School has once again been recognised for the quality of its careers education programme, retaining the Career Mark Award for an impressive period of 12 consecutive years.

“The award is nationally approved and awarded to schools who demonstrate a high-quality programme of careers-­related lessons and activities for its students.

“An independent assessor spoke with students from different year groups to explore their understanding of careers and ensure they were well-equipped with the skills required to progress successfully.”

The assessor’s report said: “Students had a good understanding of all their options and choices in order to make well-informed career decisions. “They were confident career learners and decision makers, encouraged to research and with a good knowledge of career vocabulary and concepts.

“They had participated in programmes of employer and provider talks and in work experience programmes, about which a sixth form student commented

‘The school is giving us the edge in the market place’.

“The school has experienced a long period of stability in its key personnel for careers work, with the Careers Manager, Curriculum Deputy Head and Headteacher all highly committed to careers work and to championing it across the school and community.

“There is a proactive approach towards developing careers, work-related and enterprise provision which appeasr to be reaping rewards and benefiting students across the school.”
