The Pathology department at Peterborough City Hospital has celebrated accreditation success with a VIP guest.
The department at the Bretton hospital is the first pathology laboratory in the country to have been awarded the prestigious ISO 15189 full accreditation for quality and competence in medical laboratories from the UK Accreditation Service.
The team celebrated their prestigious achievement during a visit from Lord Lindsay, chairman of the UK Accreditation Service, to Peterborough City Hospital on Monday.
Lord Lindsay was given a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities in the hospital pathology laboratories as part of his visit, before officially presenting the department heads with the accreditation certificate.
Dr Kanchan Rege, Clinical Director for Cancer and Diagnostics at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This is a major coup for the Trust as the pathology department is currently the only pathology laboratory in the country to have achieved the full accreditation across all disciplines.
“We were very proud to welcome Lord Lindsay to the hospital to formally present our certificate. I know the team is delighted to have been recognised for achieving such an important standard. It’s testament to their considerable efforts in constantly striving for quality and above all, accuracy, in their work.”
