A law firm in Peterborough has taken the Christmas spirit to heart and presented gifts and cards to some patients at Peterborough City Hospital.
Chief executive officer Andrew Thomson and directors Henry Anstey and Andy Cave of Hunt & Coombs Solicitors, in Thorpe Road, presented gifts for patients on the Hip and Knee Ward and the Trauma Ward.
They presented a selection of Christmas gifts and 65 cards to Ward Sister Josie Garratt who will distribute them on Christmas Day to the patients not fortunate enough to be at home over the festive season.
Mr Cave said: “My mother is Julia Cave, staff nurse on the Hip & Knee Ward, and she brought it to my attention that many of their elderly patients don’t have anyone to look after them at home post surgery over the festive season.
“It means they have to remain in the hospital.
“The ‘Comfort Fund’ that used to allow the hospital to provide small gifts to these patients has been withdrawn and she asked me if there was anything I could do to help.
“And this Santa style visit was the Hunt & Coombs’ response.”
Henry Anstey, who was the recipient of a new hip last year, was equally delighted to help.
He said: “I know how long it takes to recover from surgery, and the fact that this recovery period coincides with Christmas for these patients is a shame.
“Hopefully it will raise a smile when they know others are thinking of them.”
