The Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust made £1.8million on car parking last year new research has found.

Meanwhile Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust earned £1.45 million (in

2013/14)

In fact half of NHS hospital trusts are earning at least £1 million a year from car parking charges and seven trusts made more than £3 million in 2014/15.

These were University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust £3.12 million, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust £3.16 million, Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust £3.41 million, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust £3.72 million, University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust £3.07 million, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust £3.87 million and East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust £3.25 million.

Eight trusts made between £2 million and £3 million a year: Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust £2.20 million, Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust £2.47 million, Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust £2.18 million, Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust £2.56 million, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust £2.89 million, Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust £2.15 million, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust £2.57 million, University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust £2.03 million

A further 32 trusts, including Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, earned between £1 million and £2 million a year.
