Green-fingered children got their hands dirty planting new fruit and vegetables in their pre-school garden.

The youngsters at Busy Bees preschool on Hodgson Avenue, Werrington were given help putting the new plants into their mini-allotment by the Co-op at the Loxley Centre, Werrington. The store donated the plants and staff helped the youngsters.

Eleanor Lemmon and Kyle Wiles also planted flowers in the raised bed at the pre-school to add a bit of spring colour to their surroundings.

The youngsters were also given help creating a willow den to play in during the summer months.

Debbie Lucas, Tracey Wiles, Carol Byrne and Katie Byrne from the Co-op, and Mary Ryan and Amanda Markham from Busy Bees were on hand to help.

Co-op area/operations manager Mark Walker came along to support the team.

A spokeswoman for the Co-op said they were now looking to help more youngsters. She said: “We will also be now looking to plan our next project which will be getting involved with another garden project for a local primary school.”
