Fun day boost for children's ward

Werrington Village Playgroup representatives have visited Amazon ward at '¨Peterborough City Hospital to present a cheque for around £1,500 raised at a highly successful family fun day in May.

The fun day, organised by the playgroup committee, was held at Serpentine Green in Hampton.

As well as raising money for the Village Centre-based playgroup, itself a charity, the organisers decided to partner the children’s ward in their efforts.

The event involved lots of local companies who sponsored and held stalls on the day. A raffle was also held with winning prizes being donated, including hotel vouchers and a simulated plane flight.

“We were overwhelmed with the generosity of all the sponsors and the general public,” said Danielle Carver, playgroup committee member and lead organiser of the event.

“We are immensely grateful to Serpentine Green, our main sponsors, Sillwood Electrical Services Ltd, Mercedes and Lincs VW Commercial Sales Ltd, as well as all the outlets and stall holders who supported us on the day, and helped us raise such a fantastic amount for both the playgroup and Amazon ward.”

The final sum raised was also kindly uplifted by Peterborough-based BGL Group, who topped up the total ahead of the donation.

Play specialist Rosemary Hargreaves took Danielle and another committee member, Maria Harrison, on a tour of the ward and explained just how important fundraising events are.

“We are very grateful for the time and effort that went into planning such a great family day.

“We haven’t yet decided how the money will be spent but it will certainly be fully appreciated by our staff, visitors and patients.”
