Following the appeal from the food bank the nursery set up a food collection point with staff and parents donating a range of foods from tinned fish and pulses to pasta and soup.

A group of pre-schoolers then took on the task of delivering all the donations to the local food bank.

At the food bank children were met by Jan Martin, who took time to show them around and talked about the purpose of the food bank and the importance of donations from the general public.

Jenny Blin, business manager for the nursery, said: ‘We are always looking for opportunities to teach children about the community. A short trip to deliver food to the food bank is a great way to reinforce the message of sharing and supporting those in need, as well as the opportunity to help the local families.

“A huge thank you to all parents and staff for their donations.”

Throughout September the nursery is holding a free pre-school stay and play group every Monday, from 10am – 11am.

Suitable for children aged 3-5 years old the group is open to all local pre-school children.
