Firefighters showed their strength by pulling a 12 tonne fire engine through the streets of Peterborough to raise money for charity.

The firefighters dragged the fire engine around the city centre in the afternoon sunshine from 2pm today (Saturday, September 19).

Steve Peacock, Watch Commander for Blue Watch at Dogsthorpe, said: “The reason we are staging this event is to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, which is an organisation which provides support to fire personnel and their families who can be retired or still working in the UK.

“It is an essential service which we rely on and one which has already enabled many firefighters in Cambridgeshire to come back to work quickly after injuries or long-term health complications, which may not have been the case otherwise.”
