Study commissioned for new uni campus

The study has been commissioned by Peterborough City Council for the earmarked campus site in Bishop’s Road, by the Embankment.

The new fully fledged university is due to welcome its first students in October 2022. It will evolve from University Centre Peterborough - a joint venture between Anglia Ruskin University and Peterborough Regional College - should it obtain degree awarding powers, as expected.

Regional college principal Terry Jones said: “Progress is continuing at pace with the university project.

“Peterborough City Council is currently undertaking a feasibility study on the Bishop’s Road site by the Embankment, looking at how a new university campus for 2,000 students can be developed.

“Both a design brief and a business case will also be prepared in the coming months outlining in detail what the new site might look like, and how it can be delivered.

“University Centre Peterborough is continuing to work towards gaining degree awarding powers. A curriculum strategy has been developed to ensure the new curriculum will be available to meet the needs of students, businesses and stakeholders.

“Developing the independent university is an exciting but complex process and will be part of Peterborough’s bright future as a growing city.”

The project has so far received £13.57 million of funding. Of that £9.74 million has been awarded from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority for the establishment of a new campus.

Peterborough was promised a fully fledged university as a result of councillors voting in favour of establishing the combined authority.
