A potential power cut in Peterborough was being investigated after a city school said it was closing for the day due to a lack of power.

St Michael’s Church School in Constantine Drive, Stanground South, said this morning (Tuesday, December 1) that the school was closing because the power remained off.

The lack of electricity meant that the kitchen was out of action so there was no way to provide lunch, but power has now been restored and the school hopes to open tomorrow.

A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks said it was investigating reports of cable damage on a privately operated network in the Cardea area of Peterborough which may have affected customers on its network as well.

However, in a later update on the situation the spokeswoman added that all properties affected are on the private-owned network and not its own.
