Ducks bid for more donors

Campaigners had a quacking day last Friday at Serpentine Green shopping centre as they spread the message about the Little Yellow Duck Project.

The initiative sees knitted yellow ducks left for people to find, with a special tag on each one inviting the finder to register where they found it. They are then encouraged to donate blood, bone marrow, organs or tissues.

The project was created in memory of Clare Cruickshank of Hampton Vale who died aged 26 from cystic fibrosis after a matching donor could not be found for a transplant. Two years on from her passing, her mother Ann Rowcliffe and Lian Faulds spoke to shoppers about how nearly 6,000 hand-knitted ducks have been found in 88 countries.
