Plaques will be a lasting tribute to serving Scouts

Relatives of Scouts from Peterborough who died during the two world wars are being asked to represent their family members at a ceremony.

Plaques honouring those who died during both 20th century conflicts will be put up in the Town Hall, Bridge Street, with one plaque for the individual who died during the First World War and another for the 19 who fell during the Second World War.

The idea came from Scout senior active support members Peter Ashpool, Mick Corrigan and Peter Sidwell.

Peter said: “All three of us are feeling proud of ourselves that we can get this up to commemorate the sacrifice they gave the city and country.

“We are very happy with the council. Councillor John Holdich was behind it and Councillor John Peach.

“We are deeply indebted to them for their help and support doing this.”

The plaques are expected to be placed on the first floor at the Town Hall during a ceremony sometimw this summer.

Peter said: “What I would like is a family member from each of the people commemorated to come on the day and represent the family.”
