He said: “Gerry worked at the school for 26 years as Head of Sixth Form and a teacher of history and was a highly valued member of staff until he retired in 2012.
“Gerry has continued to support the school since his retirement by donating the Gerry Cannings Award. This award is presented at our annual awards presentation evening to the sixth former who has shown the greatest endeavour, perseverance and resilience.
“I am delighted that Gerry, who has dedicated his working life to enriching the lives of hundreds of young people, has had such good fortune.
“Everyone in our school community wish him and his family our heartfelt congratulations.”
