Warning to motorists after 21 thefts from vehicles in last five days

There have been 21 reports of thefts from motor vehicles in the last five days in Whittlesey and Eastrea.

Police are urging motorists to keep their vehicles locked and valuables secure following the spate of thefts since Friday (April 15).

The offences have occurred overnight and the majority of vehicles have been insecure. The vehicles are being searched with electrical and personal items taken.

Detective Inspector Dave Murphy said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a white male, approximately 5’ 7” running from Kelful Close, Eastrea at about 2:30am on Monday (April 18).

“We would like to reassure members of the public that patrols have been increased in the area but urge people to keep their cars and vans locked at all times and valuables not just out of sight but in a secure place.”

The thefts took place at the following locations:

* Overnight Friday/Saturday in Chestnut Crescent, Belmans Road, Burdett Grove, Charles Road and Mulberry Close in Whittlesey. Jewellery, iPad, purse, phone, camera, Sat Nav, cash and toys stolen.

* Overnight Saturday/Sunday in Hawthorne, Whittlesey. Nothing taken.

* Overnight Sunday/Monday in Mayfield, Coats Road, Kelful Close. Bryony Close, Thoenham Way, Roman Gardens and Wype Road in Eastrea. Purse, clothes, cash, watch and tools stolen.

* Overnight Monday/Tuesday in Stonals Road and The Crescent, Whittlesey. Power tools and gardening equipment taken.
