Dog walkers at Ferry Meadows are being warned to take extra care of the pets after sausages with nails in them were found at a car park near the country park.
The sausages were found near just outside the park boundary in the car park by the Milton Ferry Bridge entrance last night.
A spokesman for the Nene Park Trust said: “A visitor brought it to the attention of a ranger that they had found the sausages at the car park just outside the park on the Castor side last night.
“We have not had any reports of similar sausages being found in the park boundaries, and we have also not had any reports of any animals being hurt by them.
“We are warning dog owners to be extra vigilant in the area, and to report anything of concern.”
A spokesman for the RSPCA said: “We would be very concerned to hear confirmation that someone is intentionally targeting dogs in this way and urge anyone with any information to call either the police or ourselves on 0300 1234 999.”
Reports can be made to the Nene Park Trust by calling the Ferry Meadows office on 01733 234193 or the Duty Ranger on 07860 308081.
Alternatively you can report any concerns at the Visitor Centre in Ferry Meadows or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
