Women will hold a ‘reclaim the night’ walk through Peterborough city centre.
The walk will be held on Saturday night, starting in Cathedral Square at 7pm. The participants will walk through the city, before finishing at the Ostrich Inn.
It has been organised by the Peterborough Rape Crisis Care Group, and a spokeswoman said: The marches are meant to encourage women to feel safe walking the streets on dark, winters’ nights.
“Similar marches will be taking place all over the country on the same night, as November 25 is the UN Day to End Violence Against Women. Peterborough Rape Crisis Care Group are passionate about getting Peterborough involved and letting local women be heard.
“This year it’s more important and relevant than ever, both in light of the sexual violence in the news (and the #metoo campaign) and because it marks 40 years since Reclaim the Night first started in the UK, as a response to the fear caused by the Yorkshire Ripper.
“Any women and girls are welcome to come along and make their voices heard.”
