Twenty seven children under the age of 18 were investigated in the year up to April 2015 for ‘sexting’.
The youngest child investigated was aged 10 and the oldest was 17.
The children were investigated for sending or sharing explicit or naked pictures of themselves on social media or text messaging services to others.
Facebook was the most popular social media service to be used, while Snapchat, Instagram, WhatsApp and Skype were also used.
One 15-year-old received a youth conditional caution while in five cases there was a community resolution.
In the other cases, the police decided it was not in the public interest to prosecute or that there was insufficient evidence.
The information was revealed in a Freedom of Information request.
