Three in custody after armed incident in Hampton
Police have appealed for witnesses after three men were arrested in an armed street fight in Peterborough.
Armed police sealed of three streets in Hampton at 4pm yesterday (Friday, June 3) after being called to a fight involving several armed men and reports that a handgun had been seen.
Three men remain in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station today (Saturday, June 4) following the incident which saw two people taken to hospital, although their injuries are not believed to be serious.
Seven police units and an ambulance were called to the incident with several armed officers in attendance as Delves Way and Bank Avenue opposite Hampton College were sealed off as well as Harn Road.
Police were called to reports which described the scene as violent ‘melee’ involving several men. The Peterborough Telegraph understands the men were all known to each other. Reports suggested the men were armed and that a handgun had been seen.
A Cambridgeshire Police control room spokesman said: “Officers were called to reports of a violent incident in the street. There were reports that a male had been attacked by three men. There was a suggestion that a handgun might have been seen so the response was proportionate. Officers arrested three suspects at the scene.”
Insp Nik Percival said this morning that police officers dealt with the incident, made three arrests and the scene was cleared by 5.30pm last night.
He added: “If any witnesses could contact us on 101 that would be appreciated.”
